Import Guide

Import Guide

Step-by-step instructions for downloading your trade history and importing it into Closing Bell.

Charles Schwab

Broker Sync (Recommended)Pro
  1. 1In Closing Bell, go to Broker Connections in the left sidebar.
  2. 2Click "Add Connection" and select Schwab from the list.
  3. 3You will be redirected to Schwab’s login page. Sign in with your Schwab credentials and authorize Closing Bell to read your account data.
  4. 4Once authorized, you’ll be returned to Closing Bell. Your accounts will appear under Broker Connections.
  5. 5Click "Run Sync" to pull your trade history. Closing Bell will automatically import and group your executions.
  6. 6Sync runs automatically on a schedule — you can also trigger a manual sync anytime from the Broker Connections page.
Broker Sync is a Pro feature. It pulls your trades directly from Schwab without any CSV export needed.
OR — Manual CSV Import
CSV Import
  1. 1Recommended: Open the thinkorswim desktop app, go to the Monitor tab, then Account Statement. This export includes execution timestamps, which improves hold-time and time-of-day analytics.
  2. 2Alternative: Go to schwab.com → Accounts → History → Transactions tab. Set your date range (up to 1 year), click Export → CSV. Note: this version does not include execution times.
  3. 3In Closing Bell: go to Imports, select "Schwab" as the broker, and upload the CSV file.
Tip: The thinkorswim export gives you the richest data for analytics. Use the schwab.com export only if you don’t have thinkorswim installed.

Interactive Brokers (IBKR)

Broker Sync (Recommended)Pro
  1. 1Log in to your IBKR account at interactivebrokers.com (web portal).
  2. 2In the top navigation, go to Reporting → Flex Queries.
  3. 3Click "Create" to set up a new Flex Query. Select the activity types you want (Trades is required). Save the query — IBKR will generate a Query ID.
  4. 4Next, go to Reporting → Flex Queries again and click "Manage Flex Tokens" (or Settings). Generate a Flex Token if you don’t have one already.
  5. 5Copy both your Query ID and your Flex Token.
  6. 6In Closing Bell, go to Broker Connections in the left sidebar and select IBKR. Paste in your Query ID and Flex Token, then save.
  7. 7Click "Run Sync" to pull your trades. Closing Bell will use the Flex Query to fetch and import your execution history automatically.
Broker Sync is a Pro feature. IBKR uses Flex Queries instead of OAuth — no login redirect is needed, just your Query ID and Flex Token.
OR — Manual CSV Import
CSV Import
  1. 1Log in to IBKR Client Portal at clientportal.ibkr.com.
  2. 2Navigate to Performance & Reports → Statements.
  3. 3Select "Activity" as the statement type.
  4. 4Set your desired date range and choose CSV as the format.
  5. 5Download the file.
  6. 6In Closing Bell: go to Imports, select "IBKR" as the broker, and upload the CSV.
Make sure to select CSV format, not PDF. Only the Activity statement type is supported.

Tastytrade

  1. 1Log in to tastytrade.com.
  2. 2Click your account name in the top right, then go to History.
  3. 3Set your date range to cover the period you want to import.
  4. 4Click the download icon and select "CSV".
  5. 5In Closing Bell: go to Imports, select "Tastytrade", and upload the CSV.

Tradovate

  1. 1Log in to Tradovate at trader.tradovate.com.
  2. 2Go to Account → Reports in the top navigation.
  3. 3Select the "Fills" report (not Orders — Fills contains the execution-level data needed).
  4. 4Set your date range and export as CSV.
  5. 5In Closing Bell: go to Imports, select "Tradovate", and upload the CSV.
Use the Fills report, not the Orders report. The Orders report does not contain fill prices and will not import correctly.

Lightspeed Trader

  1. 1Log in to Lightspeed Trader.
  2. 2In the top menu, go to Reports → Trade History.
  3. 3Set your date range to cover the period you want to import.
  4. 4Click "Export CSV" to download your trade history.
  5. 5In Closing Bell: go to Imports, select "Lightspeed" as the broker, and upload the CSV file.
Lightspeed exports equities (stocks) only. Make sure to select the Trade History report — not the Order History report.

Other Brokers

  1. 1Most brokers offer a CSV export of transaction or trade history. Look for a History, Reports, or Statements section in your broker’s platform.
  2. 2Download your trade history as CSV (not PDF or Excel).
  3. 3In Closing Bell: go to Imports and use the "Auto-detect" option — it will try to identify your broker’s format automatically.
  4. 4If auto-detect doesn’t work, try selecting a specific broker format from the dropdown.
  5. 5If your broker isn’t supported, contact us — we’re adding new brokers regularly.

Tips

  • *Always download CSV, not PDF.
  • *Select the widest date range available.
  • *Include all transaction types (trades, dividends, fees).
  • *Closing Bell automatically detects duplicates if you re-import.
